Companion Gamecube Preliminary Design & Documentation

The Cake is a Pie.

Now that the 2015 BitFix Build-Off has officially begun, here is a quick look of our entry into the contest, the Companion GameCube! From June 12 to September 14, 2015, the Bitfix Gaming community forums is running a Gameboy Themed Contest, where any portable sporting a tie to the Nintendo handheld is eligible, be it a SNESp with an attached Super Gameboy, a Gameboy inspired case, a Raspberry Pi inside a Gameboy shell etc. We’ve had the Companion Gamecube on the backburner for a while, and with the proposed integrated Gameboy Player, it seems like the perfect time to get the ball rolling on this project.

-3D Printed Case
-Normal CC look when not in use
-All ports & jacks accessible via hearts
-5″ 4:3 TFT Screen
-Built in Gameboy Player
-Aperture Science Fan Grills
-Stereo Sound
-All Four GC Controller Ports
-Internal Wavebird Support
-Now we’re designing with Portals


DESIGN

The Project is not a portable, but rather a full-featured Gamecube case mod. All the Companion Cube hearts will open to reveal all GC Ports, Buttons and Connections to use and run the console. A Built-in Gameboy Player is included as well, to qualify for the contest.

ELECTRONICS

Using the Innolux ZJ050NA-08C/AT050TN22 screen from eBay, a 5″ 4:3 640 x 480 TFT screen with VGA and Composite output. While there are a few Gamecube games that support 16:9 widescreen over 4:3 (not regarding the Swiss Widescreen Hack which does not apply for this project due to using original optical media), A widescreen format screen would not fit the case anyhow.
